ICC Day Two : A Love Theme

Today’s composition, You’re My Mate, is a love theme for two characters from A Court of Mist and Fury which is currently part of a four book series (I won’t say which characters, because it’s a huge spoiler if I do. If you’ve read the books, guess. If you haven’t – read them, and then guess *wink*).

I’ve written and practiced this composition over the past two days. Don’t worry, I slept and ate and yes…watched Downton Abbey.

As far as reflections on the challenge go, I might have written a simpler piece. My hands are starting to hurt. I can’t say I’m fully pleased with the execution of playing the piece, but I suppose that’s part of the challenge. It can’t be perfect in less than 48 hours.

I hunted around the house for a mic better than the built-in one in my iPhone, but it would appear all the video equipment I had from work has returned to where it’s supposed to be. I started some research on mics and hopefully I can get some quality audio for y’all before the end of this.

This composition is different from what one may expect from a love theme. The relationship between these two characters, however, isn’t straightforward. It takes a long time for them to come together. Not to mention they are nearly always threatened by war and other forces of darkness. I hope the theme evokes the two opposing sensations of night, the light of the stars and the darkness of night and a powerful love that combines them both.
